AHRQ Issues Summary of Evidence Report on Disability in Patients with Chronic Renal Failure

Press Release Date: July 17, 2000

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) announces the availability of a summary of the evidence report evaluating the U.S. Social Security Administration's (SSA's) current Listing of Impairments for determining disability in individuals with chronic renal failure (CRF). The report seeks to determine whether the CRF criteria for disability status, last revised in 1979, are still applicable, as newer treatments may have allowed some patients to continue normal daily activities within the limitations of their disease.

The summary of Evidence Report Number 13, Determinants of Disability in Patients with Chronic Renal Failure, is available online at http://www.ahrq.gov/clinic/epcsums/renalsum.htm. Print copies are available from the AHRQ Publications Clearinghouse by writing to P.O. Box 8547, Silver Spring, MD 20907, or calling 800-358-9295 within the U.S. or (703) 437-2078 from outside the country. Copies of the full report are expected to be available in late 2000.

For more information, contact AHRQ Public Affairs (301) 427-1364.
