Virtual Grower is a decision support tool for greenhouse growers.  Users can build a greenhouse with a variety of materials for roofs and sidewalls, design the greenhouse style, schedule temperature set points throughout the year, and predict heating costs for over 230 sites within the US.  Different heating and scheduling scenarios can be predicted with few inputs.

Downloading instructions

After completing the form, below, click the "Take me to the download..." button.  You will be presented with a list of files.  Please read the file descriptions, below, to determine which file(s) you will need to download. 

All VGInstall files are self-extracting archive files.  To download and extract archive files

1. Create a new temporary directory on your hard drive to store the installation files (e.g. C:\VGInstall).
2. Click the desired .exe file and select 'Save'.  Within the 'Save As' dialog box, navigate to the directory you created in step 1 and select 'Save'.
3. When the download is complete, click the 'Open Folder' button. If the 'Open Folder' button is not available, use 'My Computer' to open the folder to which you saved the .exe file.
4. Double-click the .exe file to extract the installation files. Choose to 'Run' the software, if asked.  In the WinZip Self-Extractor dialog box, click the 'Browse...' button, navigate to the folder you created in step 1, and click 'OK'.  Click 'UnZip'.
5. Close the WinZip dialog box.

File descriptions:

Manual for Virtual Grower 2.0.pdf	If you just want the Virtual Grower manual, right-click this filename and choose 'Save As...' to choose a location to save the file on your computer.  The manual is included in the VG2Install.exe download.
FrameworkForVG.exe	Prior to installing Virtual Grower for the first time, the .NET framework and Windows Installer version 3.0 must be installed.  If your computer does not meet these requirements, download this archive.  After downloading,  extract the files and double-click each extracted file (WindowsInstaller and dotnetfx) to install.
VG2Install.exe	Select this file to install Virtual Grower version 2.0, or to upgrade from version 2.0.  Double-click the Setup.exe to install.  The Virtual Grower manual is included in the installation.

Detailed installation instructions are available in the Virtual Grower manual.  Follow the instructions in the Installation section, referencing the directory to which you downloaded the files, rather than the CD-ROM.  Once the program is installed, you can delete the temporary directory you created in step 1.
