Secretary of the Navy (Acting) Robert B. Pirie, Jr., is conducting a four-day visit to Navy and Marine Corps commands in Southern California from April 2 to April 5, 2001.
Pirie will go aboard the 3rd Fleet command ship USS Coronado (AGF-11) on April 3, D-Day for exercise Kernel Blitz, to observe amphibious assault and forced entry operations from the sea. Later that day he will also embark USS Dubuque (LPD 8) and USS Jefferson City (SSN 759).
On Wednesday, Pirie will travel to Marine Corps Air Station, Camp Pendleton, and Naval Weapons Station Fallbrook, where he will oversee the processing of the last canister of napalm at the Napalm Processing Plant. He will complete his work in the region that same day with visits to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar and USS Bon Homme Richard (LHD 6).
