Our Special Guest Speaker in October was Ambassador Hafiz Pashayev, Rector of Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy (ADA) and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. Ambassador Pashayev provided AmCham members with a brief overview on ADA School of International Affairs, Leading Innovation and Responsible Citizenship. Being a very exciting initiative, recently created Academy will offer absolutely new model and concept of education in Azerbaijan aimed to develop a new generation of professionals both in public and private sectors of the country.  Read More

Within the framework of economic dialog between Azerbaijan and the United States, AmCham Azerbaijan hosted the official business lunch with U.S. Deputy Secretary of Commerce John J.Sullivan on 30th of October. Attended by H.E. Ambassador Anne Derse, representatives of U.S. Embassy in Azerbaijan and official delegates of U.S. Department of State, the meeting has past behind closed doors. Re-evaluating economic development between the two countries, John J. INFLATION SURVEY OCTOBER 2008

Over the last year (the base is 100 at 30 September 2007) the AAIP rose by 32.58 percent for Azerbaijani consumers and 27.06 for Expatriate consumers. Over the last 3 quarters (the base is 100 at 31 December 2007) the AAIP rose by 16.07 percent for Azerbaijani consumers and 15.19 for Expatriate consumers.

INFLATION SURVEY JULY 2008

In the 2nd quarter of 2008 the AAIP rose by 3.74 percent for Azerbaijani consumers and 3.66 for Expatriate consumers. The largest upward effect on the AAIP rate came from Non durable household goods, Pharmaceutical Products and Personal Hygiene and Sugar and Sweets where CPI rose by 12.25%, 6.93% and 6.4% respectively. The only downward effect on the AAIP rate came from Fruits & Vegetables where CPI went down by 1.95% due to seasonal affects. For comparison, in the 2nd quarter of 2006 CPI for Fruits & Vegetables went down by 16.14%, in 2007 by 3.3%.
