An information service from Office of Travel & Tourism Industries (OTTI)

March 13, 2006

SURVEY OF INTERNATIONAL AIR TRAVELERS – REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS SOLICITATION RELEASED

The U.S. Department of Commerce announces a request for proposals (RFP) from vendors for the Survey of International Air Travelers program. The Office of Travel & Tourism Industries (OTTI) goal is to improve the current “In-Flight Survey” program based on the 2005 request for information (RFI) and upcoming proposals received from commercial contractors.

The Government’s objective is to assess the economic impact of international visitation, from passengers who travel to the U.S., and those traveling from the U.S., during a calendar year. The main purpose of the Survey is to provide data integral to the 1) calculation of the international balance of trade (exports/imports) for travel services, 2) determination of the U.S. Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and the 3) quantification of the national level of Travel and Tourism Satellite Accounts (TTSA). The Survey also provides statistical market data on visitation patterns and traveler characteristics of the international air passenger travel market, which is used to facilitate and guide planning in both the public and private sectors.
