| Viability of State-Required Remedial Training for High-Risk Commercial Motor Vehicle Drivers |
| The purpose of this project is to explore, with the states, the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA), and the trucking industry, the realities, cost, and benefits of requiring remedial training for high-risk commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers. Currently, such training requirements “kick in” for drivers of personal vehicles after a certain number of points. The project could also determine the number of drivers and types of situations that would potentially necessitate the retesting of CMV drivers. This project also involves learning how other countries handle the retesting of drivers and under what conditions. If appropriate, this project would outline the general content of a Model Remedial Training Program for truck drivers and discuss if several such training programs would need to be developed based on the particular issue(s) of the CMV driver.
