New Senior Coordinator for Iraqi Refugee Issues

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has appointed Ambassador James B. Foley as the Senior Coordinator for Iraqi Refugee Issues. In this new position, Ambassador Foley will work with the Iraq Refugee and Internally Displaced Persons Task Force and other government agencies to enhance our response to this important issue.

Ambassador Foley is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service with the rank of Minister Counselor. He has been serving as Deputy Commandant and International Affairs Advisor at the National War College. His previous assignments include U.S. Ambassador to Haiti, Deputy Permanent Representative of the United States to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Geneva, and Diplomat in Residence at the State University of New York at Fredonia.
