Commerce Deputy Secretary Meets with Hungarian Prime Minister
Budapest, Hungary (June 29)—Hungarian Prime Minister Gyurcsany greets Commerce Deputy Secretary David A. Sampson to discuss building a stronger commercial and economic relationship between the U.S. and Hungary. Sampson commended the Hungarian leadership for its commitment to advocating greater transparency in Hungary. Dr. Sampson remarked that transparency is critical to creating a competitive, dynamic and growing business environment. Sampson’s meeting with Prime Minister Gyurcsany was part of an official three-day visit to Budapest, Hungary, June 26-30.

Under Secretary Mancuso Addresses NAM on Export Control Issues and China Policy Rule
Washington (June 29)—Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) Under Secretary Mario Mancuso addressed the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) on export control issues and the recently published China Policy Rule. The new China rule, which was announced on June 15, creates the Validated End-User (VEU) program, an innovative way to facilitate exports to trusted customers in China. (More)
Deputy Secretary Sampson Participates in Hungarian Transparency and Competitiveness Conference
Budapest, Hungary (June 29)—Deputy Secretary David A. Sampson emphasized the high cost of corruption and the benefits of transparency in his keynote remarks at a multilateral forum entitled “Transparency and Competitiveness: Is There a Connection?” He told the audience that for countries finalizing their transition to market economies, there is perhaps no more critical or difficult issue than sustaining an ethic that encourages and rewards transparency and predictability.
