Mario Mancuso

Mario Mancuso is the Under Secretary of Commerce for Industry and Security. Nominated by President George W. Bush, Mr. Mancuso was unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate on May 24, 2007.

As Under Secretary, Mr. Mancuso leads the Bureau of Industry and Security in promoting continued U.S. high technology leadership across strategic industry sectors in order to advance U.S. national security, foreign policy and economic objectives.  In this capacity, Mr. Mancuso works closely with counterpart officials of U.S. international partners and allies around the world.   

Mr. Mancuso is also responsible for multilateral and bilateral high technology and strategic trade dialogues for the United States, including the U.S.-China High Technology and Strategic Trade Working Group and the U.S.-India High Technology Cooperation Group, and manages a bureau with offices throughout the United States and in China, India, Hong Kong, Russia, and the United Arab Emirates.   

Previously, Mr. Mancuso served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations and Combating Terrorism.  As the senior civilian Defense Department official with immediate responsibility for the global special operations and counterterrorism portfolio, Mr. Mancuso worked closely with the senior military and civilian leadership of the Department of Defense, senior members of the U.S. government national security leadership, and senior government officials of U.S. foreign partners and allies.

Before entering government service in January 2005, Mr. Mancuso spent a decade in the private sector as an international corporate lawyer and business executive. Mr. Mancuso advised, managed, and executed complex cross-border transactions and investments for leading investment banks and public and private company clients worldwide.

Mr. Mancuso graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University, and received his law degree from the New York University School of Law. A former Army infantry officer, Mr. Mancuso is a combat veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
