Foreign-Born Characteristics: 2007 — There were an estimated 38 million people in 2007 living in the United States who were born outside of the country. New data profiles show educational attainment, income, year of entry, occupations and more based on a group’s country of birth. For example, Chinese-born residents in one part of the country are much more likely to graduate high school than others. (Tentatively scheduled for release in mid-November.)

Profiles of Older Workers: 2004 — The Census Bureau is releasing a series of state reports on workers 55 and older. Pennsylvania’s report is tentatively scheduled for release in late October. Previously released reports are available at <http://lehd.did.census.gov/led/library/profiles_2007.html>.
Facts for Features
Holiday Season — The Census Bureau presents numerous facts and figures related to Christmas and other holidays this joyous time of year. (Tentatively scheduled for release Oct. 29.)

Profile America and Al Día (Spanish) — Profile America is a daily, 60-second feature that uses interesting vignettes from key events, observances or commemorations for that day to highlight information collected by the Census Bureau. Upcoming segments include a breakthrough in timekeeping with the “First Electronic Watch” (Oct. 25) and a new way of keeping track of sales in “Cash Register Invented” (Nov. 2). Economic
2007 State and Local Government Employment and Payroll — Oct. 22 — The nation’s 89,526 state and local governments employed 16.4 million full-time equivalent employees in 2007, a 4.5 percent increase from 2002. These figures are the first comprehensive data to be released from the 2007 Census of Governments. Local governments include counties, cities, townships, special districts and school districts.

Facts for Features
2008 World Series — Oct. 21 — The Tampa Bay Rays face the Philadelphia Phillies in the 104th edition of major league baseball’s championship series. The Census Bureau has compiled a collection of statistics related to the two metropolitan areas — Tampa-St. Petersburg, Fla., and Philadelphia.

American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month (November) — Oct. 16 — Presidents have signed proclamations to honor the nation’s 4.5 million American Indian and Alaska Natives each year at this time. This group is younger and has larger families than the national population.

Veterans Day (Nov. 11) — Oct. 16 — Parades and speeches across the country, as well as a national ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery, highlight this federal holiday. Some of the statistics from this day include the number of veterans in the country, their racial and ethnic backgrounds, and the number who vote.
