The number of jobs in the temporary help industry grew sharply for much of the 1980s and 1990s. The industry accounts for less than 3 percent of total nonfarm employment. Workers employed by temporary help agencies work in all sectors of the economy, but notably in the services and manufacturing industries. Workers employed by temporary help firms work in a range of occupations, including computer systems analysts, engineers, clerical workers, janitors, and construction laborers.
