Fogarty International Center (FIC) does NOT:

• Accept unsolicited grant applications
• Provide grants specifically for foreign travel to meetings or conferences
• Provide training grants directly to students; we do provide training grants to institutions who select trainees.

• NIH Grants Policy Statement: The technical handbook for grants at NIH (revised 12/2003).
• NIH Glossary of Commonly Used Terms: Also includes acronyms and abbreviations used throughout NIH.
• Movie: Grant Writing for the NIH: Talk given by Anthony Coehlo (former NIH employee), Stanford University, as an introduction to the NIH grant process.
• Movie: A Mock Peer Review Session: Produced by CSR, this staged peer review session shows applicants the dynamics of a scientific review group and what sort of criteria scientific review groups look for in applications.

How to Apply

• NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts: All FIC grants are in response to program announcements posted on Grants.gov, and are searchable using the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts. To find program announcements, search using keywords from your proposed research. (You may also click on the Research Grants link on the left sidebar to find program announcements for FIC). At this time, Fogarty International Center does not accept unsolicited grant applications.
• Electronic Grant Application (SF424) Information: If your Funding Opportunity Announcement requires electronic submission, then use SF424 resources.
• Paper Grant Application (PHS 398) Information: If your Funding Opportunity Announcement does not require electronic submission, then use PHS 398 resources.

For Current Grantees

• Noncompeting Progress Report (PHS 2590) Information: If your Notice of Award did not say you could file your progress reports electronically, then use this information to complete your required progress reports.
• eSNAP: If your Notice of Award indicated that you could take advantage of electronic filing of your progress reports (eSNAP eligible), go through eRA Commons.
• Changes in Scope on NIH Grants or Cooperative Agreements: Information on how to change the scope of research on an awarded NIH grant or cooperative agreement. This includes, but is not limited to, questions about rebudgeting and changing key personnel.
• Prior Approval Information Chart: This lists all activities that may require prior approval by NIH staff before NIH funds may be used.
• Reporting and Record Retention Guidance for NIH Grantees
• eRA Commons Information: All grantees should try to get Commons accounts to check summary statements and file Financial Status Reports.
