The Central Federal Lands Highway Division of the Federal Highway Administration in cooperation with the U.S. Forest Service and New Mexico Department of Transportation is administering a construction project to widen and pave the existing roadway for a distance of 2.06 miles (3.31 kilometers) from east of Fenton Lake to the turn off at Seven Springs Fish Hatchery. The project will generally follow the existing vertical and horizontal alignment with three exceptions. These exceptions are: Fenton Lake, Seven Springs and the Rito Penas Negras. The roadway will be upgraded to a consistent width of 6.6 meters.
