FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
TUESDAY, JAN. 15, 2008

The Effects of Taxes and Transfers on Income and Poverty in the United States: 2006 — Jan. 15 — These estimates of income and poverty for various demographic groups use a series of alternative income definitions that take into account government taxes and transfers. These estimates show how income distributions change when the definition of income is varied to reflect the inclusion or exclusion of different components. The estimates are for calendar year 2006 as collected in the 2007 Annual Social and Economic Supplement (ASEC) to the Current Population Survey and are similar to those released from the 2006 ASEC (calendar year 2005 estimates) in the Effect of Taxes and Transfers on Income and Poverty in the United States: 2005.
