How do I find out what the NPGS has?

There are over 2,000 genera, 12,000 species and 480,000 accessions in the NPGS. To find out how many species, genera and accessions the NPGS has,

• Start from the NPGS page: http://www.ars-grin.gov/npgs/
• Click on Collections to take you to: http://www.ars-grin.gov/npgs/holdings.html

(1) Click on Diversity of Species to take you to: http://www.ars-grin.gov/npgs/stats/summary.stats, or

(2) Click on Summary Statistics to take you to: http://www.ars-grin.gov/npgs/stats/ where you can, ·

• Browse through some of the main crops
• Browse through the genera alphabetically, letter by letter
• Browse through the country list, alphabetically, letter by letter.

The list of species, genera and accessions is too large for us to produce a complete list for you.

How do I find the NPGS site that holds the germplasm collection I am interested in using or how do I find out who curates the collection?

There are several ways to find out which NPGS site holds the germplasm, and to find out who curates the collection. I'll give you two ways of finding it:

1. The first way is to begin a taxonomic search:

• Start from the NPGS page: http://www.ars-grin.gov/npgs/
• On the left side navigation section, click: Search GRIN: http://www.ars-grin.gov/npgs/searchgrin.html
• In the middle of this page, click Taxonomic Queries: http://www.ars-grin.gov/cgi-bin/npgs/html/queries.pl
• On the Taxonomic page, click the first link, the Advanced Queries link to bring you to: http://www.ars-grin.gov/cgi-bin/npgs/html/taxgenform.pl
• Type in either your genus or species or common name
• Choose the taxon you are looking for
• If the species is part of the GRIN collection, you will see a Species priority site listed. Click on it.
• On that page, you will find a set of curators. However, if you don't find a curator for your species, contact the site by email or phone.

2. The second way is to start with the Collections page:

• Start from the NPGS page: http://www.ars-grin.gov/npgs/
• Click on Collections to take you to: http://www.ars-grin.gov/npgs/holdings.html
• Click on Summary Statistics to take you to: http://www.ars-grin.gov/npgs/stats/
• Look at some of the main crops to see if yours is listed
• Look through the alphabetic lists of genera to find yours.
• Click on genera
• Click on species
• Look to see who the species priority site is
• Click on site for a list of curators and site specific information.

How do I find out what collections are held at a given NPGS site?

• Click on the city name in the map where the germplasm collection is located, or click on the link Germplasm Repositories to take you to: http://www.ars-grin.gov/cgi-bin/npgs/html/sites2.pl
