Trinity County and the Hyampom community hosted a community meeting in Hyampom on Monday, September 29, 2008 to discuss the Hyampom Road construction project. There was an excellent turn-out of concerned residents. Representatives from Trinity County Board of Supervisors, Trinity County DOT, Shasta Trinity National Forest, and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) were available to answer questions and explain concerns regarding the project.
One important concern raised was the STOP LIGHTS on the project. It was reported by road users that not all motorists are stopping and waiting for the Green Light. FHWA explained that these lights are set on timers and they will turn green in cycles, with the timing based on the distance between the lights. FHWA, along with Trinity County urged everyone to please wait for the green light as the lights are used at very narrow one lane road sections that have limited or no sight distance.
Another issue raised was the procedure during the upcoming winter months. If there is a problem on the road (rockslide, landslide, accident, etc.), Trinity County has instructed folks to call 911, including if any of the warning lights, signs, traffic signs and signals are not working. The 911 system will be able to contact the agency responsible.
