FWS RIP Data

View Projects by state

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has an interagency agreement with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) to provide an inventory of transportation assets to determine the relative needs of FWS. The Road Inventory Program (RIP) is a GIS consisting of a national geodatabase containing line, polygon and point feature classes for roads, parking lots and associated features (bridges, culverts, gates, etc.) respectively. This website contains FWS RIP data for individual stations. The following can be downloaded for each station listed: electronic report (pdf), shapefiles, a geodatabase and photos of roads, parking lots and associated features.

The RIP provides a framework, for both FWS and FHWA, to track transportation assets, identify current needs and effectively plan for future needs by providing detailed identification information for each road and parking lot (routes) in the FWS network. Routes are identified by Route Name, Route Number and Asset Number (from FWS Real Property Inventory) if available. This framework gives employees of both agencies a common starting point for planning, design and construction activities on the FWS transportation network.
