in order to run DataFerrett.
See the instructions below.

In order to run correctly, DataFerrett requires 2 files. If you have not done so already please download and then install the following file:

  1. Java 2 Runtime Environment Version 1.4 and

  2. To copy, paste and Save your DataFerrett data sessions, Right click this link and"Save Target As" .java.policy to the location indicated below. Add the dot and the policy (.policy) to the file name and save to YOUR corresponding Windows location as indicated below:

  3. C:\Documents and Settings\username  on Windows 2000, XP

    C:\Winnt\Profiles\username  on Windows NT, XP

    C:\Windows\Profiles\username on multiuser Windows 95 and 98 systems

    C:\Windows  as a single-user on Windows 95 and 98 systems

  4. This file is a Windows Permission File or a Windows Policy file. If you are unable to save the file as ".java.policy" (dot java dot policy), then go to the appropriate folder location in your windows explorer. Change the filename to ".java.policy". The file should now be renamed to ".java.policy". After saving the policy file, close all the windows for your browser and restart the computer. When you start (from this page) your DataFerrett, you should be able to copy and paste text to and from DataFerrett as with any other Windows application as well as save your DataFerrett Sessions and Tabulations.

  5. This Page (with the "progression bar") MUST stay open during your DataFerrett session!

Special Note for Applet users:
  1. Pop up blockers will block extraction pages. So, Pop up blockers need to be turned off, and
  2. Applet users need to select the batch file option for extractions.
