Congressman Dicks is pleased to offer internship opportunities to college students and recent graduates in his Washington state offices. The purpose of the internship program is to allow students with an interest in politics, government, and public policy to gain firsthand knowledge of the day-to-day operations in a Congressional district office. Residents of Washington State, particularly the Sixth Congressional District, are encouraged to apply.
The duration of an average internship is between 8 and 16 weeks (roughly corresponding to the quarter/semester schedule of the student) and can be negotiated depending on the needs of the office and the applicant. It is often possible to work with college faculty in order to receive academic credit for participation in the internship program. This experience is designed to provide the intern with a thorough understanding of the primary responsibilities and day-to-day operations of a congressional district office.
Interns perform a variety of tasks depending on the needs of the office during that period of time, and based on the interests and skills of the intern. The core functions of the internship program include: processing mail and faxes, compiling news articles from district newspapers, responding to various constituent requests, and assisting staff with other assignments as needed.
If you are interested in applying for an internship in Congressman Norm Dicks' office, please mail or fax your resume and cover letter to:
