Answering the questions below before you contact us will make it easier for us to set up an interview that meets your needs.  

Who? You don't have to have an official in mind when you call, but it always helps!  The publications linked below may help you decide who you'd like to interview.

What? Is your media format TV, radio, or print? Is the interview to be LIVE or taped? Will it be On the Record or Off the Record?  (Ground Rules for Interviewing Department Officials provides helpful definitions of on- and off-the-record and other types of interviews. Please review it to be sure you request the appropriate interview type for your needs.)

Where? TV interviews for live broadcast can originate from the studio, briefing room, hall of flags, and other locations.

When? Do you have a tight deadline? Does your request need to be filled today, or are you making long-term plans? Does the interview need to take place at a particular time of day, or is the interview time flexible?

Why? State Department officials are glad to do media interviews if the request fits their area of expertise.
