Diplomatic Security Special Agent Victoria Anzaldua Takes Top Honors at Federal Law Enforcement Training Center

Potterville, Michigan native Victoria Anzaldua was recognized today as the Honor Graduate of the Year from the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC), and the first female special agent ever to achieve this distinction.

Anzaldua is a Special Agent with the Diplomatic Security Service, the worldwide law enforcement and security arm of the U.S. Department of State.

Joe D. Morton, Director of the Diplomatic Security Service, spoke today at a ceremony for Special Agent Azaldua at the FLETC training center in Glynco, Georgia.

The Honor Graduate of the Year award is given annually to the FLETC graduate with the highest average scores on academic exams, firearms testing and physical efficiency testing. Special Agent Anzaldua, who completed her training in January 2005, topped more than 3,700 other federal agents who went through the training last year.

Agent Anzaldua achieved an academic average of 98.84, a firearm score of 294 points out of 300; and a physical efficiency battery average of 96. In addition, she earned the Distinguished Fitness Award and the Firearms Outstanding Performance Award.

Diplomatic Security Service Director Morton said, "This award is reserved for a very elite group of men and women. Your excellent academic and physical achievements have put you in a special league. You have indeed made us proud."

Agent Anzaldua recently joined the U.S. Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service and is currently detailed to the Diplomatic Security office in West Los Angeles, California. She has served on protective details in Jerusalem; Beijing, China; and Afghanistan.

The Diplomatic Security Service has special agents assigned to U.S. diplomatic missions overseas and field offices throughout the United States. Diplomatic Security agents conduct passport and visa fraud investigations worldwide and are responsible for security at 285 U.S. diplomatic facilities around the world.

Agent Anzaldua graduated from Potterville High School in 1986. She is the daughter of Barbara and Ramone Anzaldua.

Agent Anzaldua graduated from the University of Michigan, and earned a Masters Degree in Strategic Intelligence from the American Military University. Before she joined the Diplomatic Security Service, she was a Federal Air Marshal, an Arizona Highway Patrol Officer, and an Arizona Air Rescue Officer/Paramedic. She also served in the Arizona Army National Guard.
