Support for Research Institutions

This collection of programs (ATE, CCLI, STEP, ADVANCE, and EER) provides grants to support institutions at colleges and universities to expand knowledge in all fields of science, mathematics, and engineering. These enhance the quality of science and engineering education and training at all levels.

What This Rating Means

PERFORMING
Effective

This is the highest rating a program can achieve. Programs rated Effective set ambitious goals, achieve results, are well-managed and improve efficiency.
  • These programs have documented their efficiency since they were first assessed. In 2004 - 2007, the programs exceeded their goals in informing applicants whether proposals have been declined or recommended for funding within six months of proposal receipt, while maintaining a credible and efficient merit review system.
  • Because the NSF Research Institutions budget investment category no longer exists in the new Strategic Plan, results will be reported beginning in FY 2007 for the percentage of proposals from academic institutions not in the top 100 of NSF funding recipients for proposals managed by the Directorate for Education and Human Resources as a whole.
