Takahashi, T.J., Abston, C.C., and Heliker, C.C., 1995, Images of Kilauea East Rift Zone Eruption, 1983-1993: U.S. Geological Survey Digital Data Series DDS-24.

This CD-ROM contains 475 images from the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory Library that show a variety of scientific work and volcanic activity, including lava fountains, lava flows, lava tubes, and lava entering the sea and destroying buildings. The images were scanned from 35-mm color transparencies and color photographs. Image sizes range from 700 kilobytes to 1.5 megabytes and are stored in a PCX format. Retrievals and displays are made using GEOHW.EXE, a program included on this disc.

This CD-ROM is intended only on DOS-based computer systems. The minimum system requirements to use the data with the software provided on this disc are: (1) IBM or compatible personal computer; (2) 640 Kb RAM; (3) MS or PC-DOS version 5.0 or later; (4) SVGA graphic card (640x480x256 color); (5) SVGA color monitor; (6) Microsoft MSCDEX version 2.1 or later; (7) CD-ROM drive with ISO 9660 software driver; and (8) Hard disk drive.

Alaska

Alaska is home to more than 40 active volcanoes, many of which have erupted violently and repeatedly in the last 200 years. This CD-ROM contains 97 digital images that were selected to portray Alaska's volcanoes, to document recent eruptive activity, and to illustrate the range of volcanic phenomena observed in Alaska.

Each photograph is stored as a Photo CD .PCD image pac in five resolutions ranging from 192x128 pixels to 3072x2048 pixels. This CD-ROM also contains Portable Document Format (PDF) files for viewing text and the photographs, and installers for Adobe Acrobat Reader 2.1 for both Windows and Macintosh.
