SEVIS Tips for Emergency Evacuations

Students

1. Remember to take important documents with you:

These include: passport, visa, SEVIS-issued I-20 or DS 2019, 1-94, Social Security Card, financial records, and plane tickets, checks and credit cards.

2. Take any contact numbers or email addresses to keep in touch with your designated schoool officials (P/DSOs):

Check the school’s web site or designated schoool official (P/DSO) office to find out how they would like you to contact them if you are displaced.

3. Take the SEVP contact information:

If you cannot get in touch with your designated schoool official (P/DSO), contact SEVP to let us know where you are and how we can reach you. Email to SEVP at SEVIS.source@dhs.gov, or call free from any phone: (800) 961-5294.

4. If you decide to transfer to a different school:

Check the SEVP web site at http://www.ice.gov/sevis or call (800) 961-5294 to determine if your new school is on the list of certified schools.

Schools

1. Please provide an email address and/or phone number to students and SEVP:

Provide an email address and toll-free phone number, if at all possible, for students to report their location and safety and to receive instructions from you if displaced. Please also have an email address that SEVP can use to contact you, in the event that issues arise about foreign students during or following an evacuation.

2. If you are unable to provide this information to students:

Advise foreign students to check the web site at http://www.ice.gov/sevis for information and guidance; and email SEVIS.source@dhs.gov, or call toll-free (800) 961-5294 to report their location and contact information.
