General Information

The Division of Library and Information Services is the designated information resource provider for the Florida Legislature and all state agencies. It also coordinates and helps to fund activities of public libraries, provides a framework for statewide library initiatives, provides archival and records management services, and preserves, collects, and makes available the published and unpublished documentary history of the state.

Working in partnership with citizens, state employees, librarians, archivists and records managers, the Division seeks to assure access to materials and information that enables local libraries and agencies to provide effective information services to benefit of the people of Florida.

The Division is developing a strategic plan for the period of July 1, 2007 through June 30, 2012, encompassing all the services provided by the Agency.

Programs & Services
The Division provides many services to the general public. Services are provided in two physical locations: the Legislative Library (850-488-2812) in the Capitol, and at the R.A. Gray Building, 500 South Bronough Street, two blocks due west of the Capitol in Tallahassee, Florida (850-245-6600).

Services are also offered electronically. The Division's online catalogs are available for public access on-site and via the Web.

If you work for the people of Florida, we work for you! State employees have access at no cost to many premium databases the Division makes available exclusively to them at the Services for State Employees page. They can also obtain personalized reference and research services via phone, fax, e-mail, or in person.

Libraries have access to consulting services, training, technical assistance, and information about funding sources through the Library Development Office.
