Note: By definition, corporations are excluded from the offender characteristics reported. Offenders serving life sentences and indeterminate sentences are included. Offenders are classified by the most serious offense of conviction. The percentages in this table report the percent of convicted persons having a particular characteristic who were incarcerated. For example, 84.6% of all convicted males were incarcerated, and 95.2% of males convicted of a violent offense were incarcerated. Offender characteristics are not comparable to the 1993 and prior Compendia.
