Nauru99 Research Components

dividing line

Because land-only measurements may not provide an entirely accurate representation of surface-to-air interactions in the tropics, Nauru99 was designed to capture land-, ocean- and air-based measurements via a number of research components.

In addition to the instrumented cloud and radiation testbed (CART) site on Nauru through DOE's Atmospheric Radiation Program, data were gathered from ocean locations through NOAA's research ship, the Ron Brown, and JAMSTEC's research ship, the Mirai.

These three data-gathering sites were configured in a triangular pattern. Additionally, data-gathering flights were made via a Cessna research aircraft courtesy of Flinders University, Australia.
