FUGITIVE FOUND IN FAYETTEVILLE PLEADS GUILTY TO
BEING A FELON IN POSSESSION OF A FIREARM
GREENVILLE - United States Attorney George E.B. Holding announced that in federal court today MICHAEL DAVID MCNATT, 49, pled guilty before United States Magistrate Judge David W. Daniel to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 922(g)(1), which carries a maximum term of imprisonment of 10 years and/or a $250,000 fine, followed by up to three years of supervised release. If deemed to be an Armed Career Criminal, the maximum sentence is up to life imprisonment and/or a $250,000 followed by up to five years of supervised release.
A Federal Grand Jury returned a one-count Criminal Indictment on June 15, 2006. MCNATT, considered a fugitive, was arrested on an outstanding warrant from New Jersey by federal agents. During a search, agents found a loaded Precision Arms Model PSP .25 caliber pistol in his pocket.
“Law enforcement agencies and this office are committed to seeking out and prosecuting violent offenders who pose a danger to the law abiding citizens not only in this district but across the nation,” stated Mr. Holding.
MCNATT has several convictions of robbery with a dangerous weapon.
Sentencing is set for December, 2008.
Investigation of the case was conducted by the United States Marshals Service, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Fayetteville Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Jane Jackson served as prosecutor for the government.
