The Humanitarian Crisis in ZimbabwePrincipal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs William Bellamy and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor J. Scott Carpenter will brief members of the media on the situation in Zimbabwe and current steps toward implementing U.S. sanctions. The on-camera, on-the-record briefing will take place today, March 12, 2003, at 3:30 p.m. in the Press Briefing Room, Room 2209. Following opening remarks, Mr. Bellamy and Mr. Carpenter will respond to questions from the press.
Media representatives may cover this event upon presentation of either (1) a U.S. Government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense, or Foreign Press Center), (2) a photo ID issued by the employing media organization, or (3) a letter on official letterhead from their news organization verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo ID (driver’s license or passport). Members of the press should enter through the Department of State’s 23rd Street entrance, between C and D Streets, NW and should allow for adequate time to clear through security.
