Kenya and Tanzania: New Embassy Office Buildings

On March 3, Under Secretary of State for Management Grant Green opened our new Embassy Office Building in Nairobi, Kenya. On March 4, Under Secretary Green opened our new Embassy Office Building in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Under Secretary Green was joined by Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Walter Kansteiner and Director of the Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations Retired Major General Charles E. Williams.

On August 7, 1998, terrorists bombed our Embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, murdering hundreds of people, including both Africans and Americans. The opening of new and more secure Embassy buildings demonstrates that terrorists cannot weaken the bonds between the United States and these two important African countries. We are dedicated to building even stronger partnerships with the people and governments of Tanzania and Kenya.

Released on March 4, 2003
