What is the U.S. Geological Survey?
The USGS is part of the Department of Interior, and we are the
the Nation's largest earth-science agency. The USGS is involved with
investigating the
Nation's water resources,
performing geologic studies,
producing maps,
and studying our biological resources.
USGS Water Resources
The USGS studies water resources to provide reliable, impartial, timely information needed to understand the water resources of the United States and in other nations. We have a water-science center
in each state that
can help you obtain water information.
The Water Science for Schools site
This site was designed, built, and is maintained by me, Howard Perlman, here in the
Atlanta, Ga. U.S. Geological Survey office. I am a hydrologist whose
main responsibility is creating Web sites help communicate our water information to the public. In building this site,
I found out that a lot of artistic and creative talent is needed,
and I found out that I lacked both!
I got some valuable volunteer help from Philipp Reif of
Sambal Web Services (http://www.sambal.trick-17.net/) in
Germany.
Hopefully, this site will continue to expand and improve. The input from
you, the customer, is a valuable way for me to find out what you like
and don't like, what works and what doesn't, and what things need
to be added. So, please
