Agency News and Notes

AHRQ Center director Dan Stryer dies at age 41

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality lost a leader, colleague, and friend on May 19 with the death of Daniel Benjamin Stryer, M.D. He died peacefully at home of complications from a brain tumor. For the past several years, Dr. Stryer had directed AHRQ's Center for Quality Improvement and Patient Safety, the Agency's component that works to improve the quality of care, reduce disparities, and enhance patient safety. His passion for finding ways to improve the quality and safety of health care and his capacity for bringing out the best in his colleagues will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Dr. Stryer is survived by his wife, two daughters, his parents, a brother, and a grandmother.
