September 8, 2008 Contact:    Wally Mierzejewski (307) 828-4508    Lorraine Keith: (307) 352-0399 BLM Celebrates the 15th National Public Lands Day  on September 13 In recognition of the 2008 National Public Lands Day (NPLD), the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Kemmerer Field Office, Cokeville Boy Scout Troop #600 and other volunteers will spend Saturday, Sept. 13, constructing six new picnic tables and fire-rings at the Pine Creek Campground located five miles northeast of Cokeville, Wyo. BLM is asking volunteers to bring their own hammer and tool belt if possible. Lunches will be provided and all participants will receive NPLD T-shirts. More than 120,000 volunteers across the nation, including those from nine federal agencies, are expected to celebrate NPLD at 1,500 sites. Clean-ups, fix-ups and other volunteer events will take place in parks, forests, rivers, lakes, wetlands, cultural and historic sites, and other public lands. The Civilian Conservation Corps is one of the driving forces that has inspired National Public Lands Day for the past 15 years, and NPLD volunteers work together to achieve the same common goals and mission. Projects include tree planting, removal of invasive plants, trail construction and many other activities.
