Adrienne Smith works in the Office on Women's Health (OWH), within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, as a Public Health Advisor. In that capacity, she coordinates the minority women's health activities and the Women's Mental Health Initiative. She has an academic and professional background in biology and nutritional science, with special interests in minority and women's health. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from Norfolk State University in Biology Pre-Med (Dozoretz National Institute for Minorities in Applied Sciences), and a Master of Science degree from Hampton University in Nutritional Science.
She has worked as a public health nutritionist with the Virginia Department of Health, focusing on breast-feeding promotion and prenatal nutrition among minority and underserved women. Additionally, she worked with the District of Columbia Department of Health, in the State Center for Health Statistics, assisting with the development of the District's morbidity and mortality reports. She obtained a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Women's Health from the School of Public Health (Department of Public and Community Health) at the University of Maryland, College Park, and is a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES).
