Ambassador Urbancic Meets with Archbishop of Cyprus Chrysostomos II, Tours Historic Byzantine Art Museum
U.S. Ambassador Frank C. Urbancic, Jr. met with Archbishop of Cyprus Chrysostomos II on October 30, 2008 at the Archbishop’s Palace in Old Nicosia. During the visit, the Archbishop accompanied the Ambassador on a guided tour of the Byzantine Art Museum of the Archbishop Makarios III Foundation, which houses the largest collection of religious icons on the island. The Ambassador learned the history of the collection, some of which had been illegally removed from Cyprus by looters and subsequently repatriated. [more]

Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs Brian Hook Visits Cyprus
Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs Brian Hook visited Cyprus during a multi-nation trip in order to view for himself the excellent work that UNFICYP is doing in carrying out its mandate, and to express US support for the ongoing negotiations. Mr. Hook met with UN officials and took the opportunity to view a broad variety of UNFICYP operations, including the UN Committee on Missing Persons laboratory. U.S. Diplomats Speak with Local University Students on U.S. Elections 2008
During the exciting run-up to the 2008 U.S. Presidential Elections, U.S. diplomats at Embassy Nicosia reached out to local universities throughout the island to explain the U.S. election process and answer questions about the presidential candidates. Political Section Chief Greg Macris met with international affairs students at Limassol Intercollege and Middle East Technical University. Economic Section Chief Jim Carouso spoke about U.S. elections and the economy at Eastern Mediterranean University, and Public Affairs Officer Jim Ellickson-Brown, a former professor, engaged with students at Cyprus International University.
