Summaries of Independent Scientist (K) Awards

Wyrwich, Kathleen

Institution: Saint Louis University
Grant Title: Population and Global Transition Assessments of HRQoL
Grant Number: K02 HS011635
Duration: 5 years (2001-2006)
Total Award: $484,700

Project Description: This project has 5 main goals:

  1. To compare the three health-related quality of life (HRQoL) measures in Healthy People 2010.
  2. To establish benchmarks for categorizing score ranges for these measures.
  3. To identify change over time in these measures to evaluate health interventions.
  4. To develop crosswalk score estimation methods between these measures and other widely used measures.
  5. To model underlying cognitive processes that patients employ when they assess their HRQol changes.

Career Goals: Dr. Wyrwich is Assistant Professor of Health Services Research, St. Louis University. Her long-term career goals encompass:

  • Developing new methodologies in the field of HRQoL measurement and interpretation.
  • Assisting other researchers and students with technical and scientific HRQoL matters.
  • Encouraging multidisciplinary collaborations between basic, behavioral, and clinical research centered on improved HRQoL measurement and evaluation.
  • Attaining a tenured university position and national leadership in health services research.

Progress to Date: Dr. Wyrwich continued her academic training, and has published 32 manuscripts and two additional ones are in press. Four other manuscripts are under review. She had 47 presentations at professional meetings and conferences.

Future Plans: Dr. Wyrwich will attend professional meetings and publish all planned manuscripts. Further, she will develop and submit an R01 application.
