Background

Begun in 1999 to support nine studies of public child health insurance programs and health care delivery systems, CHIRI™ is a partnership between:

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ).
The David and Lucile Packard Foundation.
The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).

Federal SCHIP and Medicaid Research Efforts

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' (HHS) research efforts include a Congressionally-mandated evaluation of SCHIP to determine the effectiveness of the program and provide information that guides future Federal and State policy. This evaluation is being conducted by Mathematica Policy Research, Inc. and the Urban Institute, under the auspices of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation (ASPE). HHS' Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is also conducting an evaluation of SCHIP through a contract with Mathematica Policy Research, Inc. The Child and Adolescent Health Measurement Initiative (CAHMI)
The CAHMI was established in 1998 as a national collaboration to develop and implement a comprehensive set of consumer-centered quality measurement tools. Kaiser Commission on Medicaid and the Uninsured
