a Percents are age adjusted to the 2000 standard population, except where indicated, using 3 age groups: 18-39, 40-59, 60 and over. Hypertension is defined as either having elevated blood pressure (average systolic pressure of at least 140 mm Hg or average diastolic pressure of at least 90 mm Hg) or taking antihypertension medication. Blood pressure under control is defined as average systolic blood pressure less than 140 mm Hg and average diastolic blood pressure less than 90 mm Hg based on average of 3 measurements and taking antihypertension medication.

b Negative/poor refers to household incomes below the Federal poverty line; near poor/low, over the poverty line to just below 200 percent of the poverty line; middle, 200 percent to just below 400 percent of the poverty line; and high, 400 percent of the poverty line and over.
