U.S. Labor Department to Provide Training for Agricultural EmployersEvent to be Held Wed., Feb. 22, in Lyons, Ga.SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Representatives from the Wage and Hour Division will discuss laws administered by the agency: The Migrant and Seasonal Agricultural Worker Protection Act (MSPA); The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA); and H-2A, a section of the Immigration and Nationality Act. Topics will include: migrant worker recruiting, hiring, housing and transportation; minimum wage; overtime pay; and work restrictions for minors. Time will be set aside for questions. Other information sessions will feature county, state and federal agency representatives who will discuss: available health services, Toombs County Health Department; pesticide application and worker notification, Toombs County Agriculture Extension Office; unemployment insurance and other benefits, Georgia Department of Labor; and migrant worker immigration status, Immigration and Custom Enforcement. Each session will run approximately one-half hour. Following a mid-morning presentation about migrant housing requirements, attendees will tour housing facilities at a nearby farm. Transportation will be provided.
