MEMORANDUM FOR EXECUTIVE OFFICERS/TRAINING OFFICERS

SUBJECT:     2000 Senior Executive Service Forum Series

This memorandum and attached schedule announces a 2000 Senior Executive Service (SES) Forum Series. The Department of Justice (DOJ) has joined with a consortium of Federal agencies led by the Department of Labor in sponsoring the series of five sessions. Please distribute this memo and the attached information to all your SES members.

The first seminar in the series, will be conducted on Wednesday, January 26, 2000 [postponed to June 27, 2000], from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon. Guest speaker is Jerry Mechling, Director, Strategic Computing and Telecommunications in the Public Sector, Harvard University, JFK School of Government. It will be held at The International Trade Center, 1300 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW. Washington, DC 20004.

There is no-cost for attending the seminar. The deadline for registration is January 12, 2000. SES members can register by sending an e-mail to or by phoning Alex Bartning, on (202) 616-3619. Standard Form 182 can also be sent via facsimile to the Executive Resources Group at (202) 514-0673. The seminars will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis to the first 25 registrants. All confirmed participants will be notified when they are on the roster.

2000 SES Forum Series

On January 26, 2000 [postponed to June 27, 2000], Dr. Jerry Mechling, the Director of Strategic Computing and Telecommunications in the Public Sector, JFK School of Government, Harvard University will speak on "Leadership for a Networked World: Guidelines for the Election of 2000 and Beyond."  Location: The International Trade Center, 1300 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW., Washington, DC 20004.

On February 25, 2000, Michele Hunt, Founder, Vision and Values, a Leadership Consulting Firm, will speak on "DreamMakers: Visionary Leaders for the Future."  Location: The International Trade Center, 1300 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW., Washington, DC 20004.

On March 31, 2000, Charlotte Roberts, the co-author of "The Fifth Discipline Fieldbook: Strategies and Tools for Building a Learning Organization," will speak on "Leading a Learning Organization."  Location: The International Trade Center, 1300 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW., Washington, DC 20004.

On April 20, 2000, Dr. Dan Goleman, the author of "Emotional Intelligence and Working with Emotional Intelligence," will speak on "Working with Emotional Intelligence" and Stephen Freeman, Director of Human Resources, Defense Finance and Accounting Service, will speak on "Application of Emotional Intelligence at DFAS."  Location: The International Trade Center, 1300 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW., Washington, DC 20004.
