MEMORANDUM FOR BUREAU PERSONNEL OFFICERS, EXECUTIVE OFFICERS, AND TRAINING OFFICERS

SUBJECT:       2000 Senior Executive Development Series Seminars

This memorandum announces additional seminars in the Fiscal Year 2000 Senior Executive Development Series.  The Attorney General, who is sponsoring the seminars through the Special Projects Fund has stated, “The Department of Justice’s commitment to excellence requires that we continue to develop the expertise of our executives”.  This series provides all Department of Justice Senior Executive Service (SES) members, senior managers, and supervisors at GS-14 and above, an excellent opportunity to learn the latest management thinking that will lead us into the future. Please distribute this memo and the attached information to all your SES members, managers and supervisors at GS-14 and above.

There is no-cost for attending the seminars.  The deadline for registration is two weeks prior to the scheduled seminar date.  Executives, senior managers and supervisors, who meet the eligibility criteria, of GS-14 and above, may register via e-mail with alejandro.m.bartning@usdoj.gov or by calling (202) 616-3619.  The seminars will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis to the specified number of registrants.  All confirmed participants will be notified when they are registered to attend.

"Congressional Budget Issues Seminar"

This no-cost session is offered Department-wide to executives, managers and supervisors, GS-14 and above.

Date:   Tuesday, April 18, 2000

"Strategic Planning Seminar"

This no-cost session is offered Department-wide to executives, managers, and supervisors, GS-14 and above.

Date/Time:   Wednesday, May 10, 2000, 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 Noon

Who:  Presenter, Robert Diegelman, Director Management and Planning Staff, Justice Management Division  (MPS/JMD)

Where:  OJP Conference Center, 3rd Floor, 810 7th St., NW. (new location)

Topics:   This half-day strategic planning seminar focuses on both present requirements and future directions.  A kick-off presentation will highlight how strategic planning links with other Department processes and drives the need for “real time” management information.  JMD Budget Staff and Management and Planning Staff members along with guest speakers from one or more Department of Justice components will discuss  issues and “lessons learned” in implementing the Government Performance and Results Act.

This Executive Development Series seminar focuses on building and enhancing leadership competencies in political savvy and strategic thinking.
