MEMORANDUM FOR BUREAU PERSONNEL OFFICERS AND EXECUTIVE OFFICERS,OFFICES, BOARDS, AND DIVISIONS’ TRAINING REPRESENTATIVES

SUBJECT:      FY2005 Senior Executive Service Forum Series and
                         Career Balance and Diversity Forum Series

This memorandum announces seminars for the Department of Labor (DOL) Senior Executive Service (SES) Forum Series and the Department of the Interior (DOI) Career Balance and Diversity (CBD) forums for Fiscal Year 2005. The Department of Justice, in partnership with a consortium of Federal agencies led by the DOL and the DOI, will sponsor these series, which are funded by the Personnel Staff.

The next SES forum entitled:  Facing and Embracing the New Reality featuring David and Alexandria Bennet will be held on March 23, 2005. This presentation will cover topics from the Bennet’s new book entitled:  Organizational Survival in the New World: The Intelligent Complex Adaptive System. All SES seminars in the series will be held from 9a.m. to Noon at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center, 1300 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20004.

The next CBD forum entitled:  Reading Lolita in Tehran features Azar Nafisi. The author will discuss her remarkable experience in the Islamic Republic of Iran teaching seven female students to read forbidden Western classics. This forum will be held at the DOI Yates Auditorium located at 1849 C Street, N.W. The forums scheduled April - November will be held at the National Press Club located at 529 14th Street, N.W. There is no cost for attending the seminars. The deadline for registration is two weeks prior to each scheduled seminar. SES members can register by sending an e-mail to Leadership.Development@usdoj.gov. Employees at all levels, with supervisory approval, may register for the CBD forums. Each seminar will be filled on a first-register, first-attend basis with the first 25 registrants. All confirmed participants will be notified when they are on the roster.
