SUBJECT:      Pay and Leave Guidance for October 16, 2000

This provides information and guidance on the effects on Federal employees of the "Million Family March," which is scheduled for Monday, October 16, 2000, in Washington, DC. The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has issued the attached memorandum to heads of executive departments and agencies concerning pay and leave guidance for that day.

There will be no special leave conditions for October 16, 2000, and the Federal government will remain open as usual. Employees who wish to attend the event or who prefer to stay home should request leave using normal leave procedures. Employees on alternative work schedules (AWS) may wish to schedule October 16 as their AWS day off or use available credit hours. Employees may obtain any information or announcements concerning delays, closures, or disruptions on the day of the "Million Family March" through the local news media.
