MEMORANDUM FOR BUREAU PERSONNEL OFFICERS
FROM: Joanne W. Simms
SUBJECT: Leadership Development Strategy Team
This memorandum requests that you name a member(s) to the Department of Justice (DOJ) Leadership Development Strategy Team. Those named should be management or training officials who have access to information on component leadership and management development policies and programs within your organization.
The need to develop a new generation of agency leaders was a recurring theme raised by DOJ components in the Department's June 28, 2001, Workforce Analysis Report to the Office of Management and Budget. The team will participate in a collaborative effort to survey current programs in place, and by April 2002 identify the non-technical skills, knowledge and abilities required by different levels of supervision. The team will also work together to create the Department's leadership development policy and associated guidance.
Team members will be expected to gather information on component leadership/management development policies and programs, to participate in email interactions as well as monthly one-day meetings at National Place Building. Members should either be or have access to training and development decision-makers within your organization.
Please provide your representative's name, title, and telephone number to Chuck Howell, JMD, Personnel Staff, Policy Group, by email at charles.m.howell2@usdoj.gov or by phone on 202-616-3726 by September 30, 2001.
