MEMORANDUM FOR BUREAU PERSONNEL OFFICERS

FROM:            Ana A. Mazzi
                         Acting Director, Personnel Staff
                         Justice Management Division

SUBJECT:      Meeting of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund the Weekend of April 20-21, 2002

This provides the attached memorandum from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) concerning the events associated with the meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund scheduled in Washington, DC, for the weekend of April 20-21, 2002. The memorandum also may be found on OPM's web site at: www.opm.gov/oca/compmemo/2002/IMFmeeting.htm.

Please note that OPM has not authorized any special attendance or leave provisions for employees in connection with these events. Government offices are expected to be open as usual during this period. Since traffic congestion may be greater than normal in downtown Washington, DC, due to the various events on Friday, April 19, and Monday, April 22, 2002, employees should be advised to use public transportation if possible and to allow extra time for travel. Those employees who are on alternative work schedules (AWS) may wish to schedule their AWS day off on one of these days, or to use available credit hours. Employees who wish to stay home should request leave in accordance with normal procedures.

Federal and local law enforcement authorities may restrict access to designated areas of downtown Washington, DC, as conditions and events indicate. Such decisions will be announced on local media outlets and OPM's web site (www.opm.gov) as they are made. Employees should monitor these information sources for announcements that may affect them. If components have special communications tools in place, e.g., hotlines, to provide information to employees, please advise employees on how to access them to obtain any relevant, component-specific instructions.

Questions from human resources staff members concerning these matters may be directed to Margaret Foskey, of the Personnel Staff's Policy Group, on (202) 514-6778, or via e-mail at: Margaret.Foskey2@usdoj.gov. Employees who have questions about these events and their impact should contact an appropriate staff member in their servicing personnel offices.
