Washington, D.C. 20530 June 26, 2002 MEMORANDUM FOR BUREAU PERSONNEL OFFICERS FROM: Debra M. TomchekDirector, Human Resources SUBJECT: Wildfires This provides the attached memorandum, dated June 25, 2002, from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) which provides guidance on actions agencies can take to assist employees affected by this season's wildfires. The information is the same as that which we provided in our earlier memo, "Assistance for Federal Employees Affected by the Fires in the Denver Area," dated June 19, 2002, which is also attached. Due to the rapid spread of the wildfires to areas beyond the Denver, Colorado, area OPM has not specified a definite geographic area affected. Therefore, this information applies to employees in any area of the United States currently affected by wildfires. If you or your staff have questions concerning this information, please address them to the following members of the Personnel Staff's Policy Group: questions concerning leave and absence in connection with this matter should be directed to Margaret Foskey, and questions concerning the premium pay provisions affecting employees engaged in emergency efforts should be directed to John Cahill. Both Ms. Foskey and Mr. Cahill can be reached on (202) 514-6778. Employees who have questions concerning these matters should consult appropriate staff in their servicing human resources offices.
