MEMORANDUM FOR BUREAU PERSONNEL OFFICERS

SUBJECT:      2002 Pay Adjustments

Attached for your information are two Office of Personnel Management (OPM) memoranda that announce the 2002 pay adjustments. Key provisions of these adjustments, which will be effective on January 13, 2002, are:

  • 3.6 percent adjustments in basic pay rates for the General Schedule (GS), the minimum Senior Level (SL) basic pay rate, and most special salary rate tables (Tables 126, 127, 128, 129, 130, 242, 243, 244, 245, 246, 247, 383, and 434 will not be adjusted);


  • 3.4 percent adjustments in basic pay rates for the Executive Schedule (EX), and in the maximum SL basic pay rate;


  • 3.4 to 3.6 percent adjustments in basic pay rates for the Senior Executive Service (ES);


  • 3.4 to 5.4 percent increases in rates of basic pay for Administrative Law Judges; and


  • 1.0 percent average locality pay adjustments, subject to applicable pay caps.

Due to these adjustments, GS pay (including locality pay) in the Washington, DC area will increase by 4.77 percent, and the locality pay percentage in the Washington, DC area will be 11.48 percent.
