MEMORANDUM FOR OFFICES, BOARDS AND DIVISIONS’ TRAINING REPRESENTATIVES

FROM:            Debra M. Tomchek
                         Director, Human Resources

SUBJECT:      FY 2003 Career, Balance and Diversity Series: Author Dr. Hank Karp

This memorandum announces the fourth program in the 2003 Career, Balance and Diversity (CBD) Series. This event features author Dr. Hank Karp discussing his co-authored book, "Bridging the Boomer Xer Gap". Stereotypes and assumptions abound between the Boomers and Gen-X in the workplace. Slacker or Loyalist, Team Player or Individualist? In this "true-to-life" portrait of the American workplace, writers, Karp, Fuller and Sirias spell out exactly what it takes to effectively integrate these two groups at work.

The Department of Justice (DOJ), in partnership with a consortium of Federal agencies led by the Department of the Interior (DOI), is sponsoring this forum and will offer several other programs throughout the year. DOJ is participating in this series for the third consecutive year, and attendees will be asked to submit feedback for evaluation purposes. Information on future events can be found on the web at http://www.doi.gov/training/cbd.

Office, Boards, and Divisions’ (OBD) employees at the GS-11 level and above can register for one of two presentations. The first presentation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on September 17 at the US Geological Survey, located at 12201 Sunrise Valley Drive, Reston, VA. The second presentation will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on September 17 at the US Department of Interior, South Building Auditorium, located at 1951 Constitution Avenue, N.W. There is no cost to attend this event.

To register, OBD employees can send an email, copied to their immediate supervisor for approval, to Leadership.Development@usdoj.gov. by September 8, 2003. The 15 seats for this seminar will be filled on a first-register, first-attend basis. Please provide your name, component/office, phone number and the time of the session that you plan to attend. To ensure component-wide representation, each component will initially be limited to two attendees. If seats remain after the registration deadline, they will be filled from the standby list. All confirmed participants will be notified by email. For additional information on this program, please contact Mary R. Jones on (202) 616-3619.
