U.S. Department of Justice Tip
How to Enable Java and/or JavaScript

red, white, and blue horizontal line

As described in the Assistant Attorney General for Administration's Memorandum (link available to DOJ Net users only), "Use of Mobile Code on the Internet and Deployment of the Department-Approved Internet Browser," March 30, 1999, components may permit employees to enable the Java and/or JavaScript capabilities of their Web browsers when dictated by bona fide business needs. (JCON II users can find the memo on the public G: drive, in the IRM folder, listed as mobilecode.wpd.)

For example, certain personnel services are provided through JavaScript applets. If your component has authorized the use of Java and/or JavaScript, use the following instructions to enable Java and/or JavaScript in the Department-approved Netscape browser:

  1. On the tool bar at the top of the browser window, select: Edit
  2. On the drop-down menu, select: Preferences
  3. Under "Category," select: Advanced
  4. Check the boxes for "Enable Java" and/or "Enable JavaScript" as appropriate
  5. Select: OK

Note:  To disable Java and/or JavaScript, uncheck the boxes in Step 4 above and select OK.
