AHCPR Announces the Mentored Clinical Scientist Development Award (K08)

Press Release Date: November 15, 1999

The Agency for Health Care Policy and Research (AHCPR) today announced it is accepting applications for the Mentored Clinical Scientist Development Award (K08) in health services research. The announcement appears in the November 12, 1999, NIH Guide (Select to access announcement). The K08 provides support for the development of outstanding clinician research scientists who are committed to a career in health services research, with a focus on development as an independent scientist.

The candidate must have a clinical doctoral degree, must identify a mentor with extensive research experience, and must be willing to spend a minimum of 75 percent of full-time professional effort conducting research and developing a research career during the award period. The grant may provide three to five years of funding. Applications are accepted February 1, June 1, and October 1 annually.

The Mentored Clinical Scientist Development Award is the second in the K series that AHCPR is supporting. The Agency announced in the September 10, 1999, NIH Guide that it is accepting applications to support the Independent Scientist Award (K02) in health services research. The K02 provides support for newly independent investigators with a clinical or research doctoral degree to enable them to foster and develop their research careers.

Public and private nonprofit organizations, including universities, clinics, state and local government units, nonprofit firms and nonprofit foundations may submit applications for either the K08 or K02 award.

Print copies of the K08 and K02 Program Announcements and application forms are available from the AHCPR Publications Clearinghouse, P.O. Box 8547, Silver Spring, MD 20907-8547; phone 800-358-9295. Request PA-00-010 and PAR-99-164 respectively.
